Lego Dimensions (EYE TO THE FUTURE)

I honestly wasn’t expecting “Skylanders but for LEGO” to be what came out of The LEGO Movie‘s success.  Were you?

That’s the concept for Lego Dimensions, but based on the trailer the premise goes like this: various worlds’ heroes have to band together to stop a villain who is messing with reality.  This means Marty McFly from Back to the Future, Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, Wyldstyle from The LEGO Movie and Batman teaming up for an epic quest – to say nothing of as-yet unrevealed characters.

Why.  Hasn’t.  Traveller’s Tales.  Done.  This.  Sooner?

This feels like a natural progression for the developer, setting aside the prospect of being obligated to buy out-of-game character packs.  If we aren’t getting a Lego Marvel vs DC game any time soon, this is a damn fine (unexpected) consolation prize – a crossover of arguably larger scope and consequence, built from the same aloof and joyful framework of past Lego games.

It remains to be seen how the game plays and if it’s any good, but I’m confident the result will at least be fun.  Please, Traveller’s Tales – if nothing else, deliver on the fun.
